13th Annual River Jam Fredericton will have the Delta Hotel ‘shaking all over’ Friday, July 5th as they showcase local musicians on 4 different stages!
The music starts at 4:45pm on Friday July 5th and plays on into the wee hours with a mega jam session!
River Jam is an annual celebration of local music happening on the banks of the beautiful St. John River at the Delta Hotel. The fantastic committee of volunteers have programmed 23 bands to play on 4 stages throughout the night. The Patio Bar, DJ Purdy’s, Governor’s Ballroom and the Main Ballroom will be alive with the great sounds of every genre of music.
This great event highlights our very talented local musicians who contribute to support “a vision based on three principals:
- Live music is the heart and soul of the maritime music tradition.
- Musicians must entertain and be heard.
- That is how we foster a greater love for the music, and support the continued development of new venues and opportunities.”
I personally look forward to this every year because of its true community atmosphere and festival feel. And because it’s all under one roof and programmed so wisely, you can see/hear the maximum number of bands in one night. You are sure to run into great people you haven’t seen in a while and you can dance the night away if you choose!
Be sure to visit the River Jam Facebook page or bios on all the bands playing the event including these:
Each year during River Jam, there is a special award presented, in honour of Diane London, beloved diva of the Downtown Blues Band, whose final performance was at River Jam 2004, before losing her battle to cancer. The award honours a local musician, artist, or arts-related woman with a creative spirit and talent, who gives of themselves to the community and who exemplify the spirit and character of Diane. Previous winners include Helen Mòrag McKinnon (2012), Becka DeHaan (2011), Carolyn Holyoke (2010), Krista Touesnard (2009), Cathy Hutchinson (2008), Maureen Steeves (2007), Casey LeBlanc (2006) and Tania Breen (2005).
Tickets are $18 in advance or $20 at the door. All musicians donate their time and all proceeds go toward musically-focused community groups and/or projects.
